Fanakofte is a pattern-knitted sweater or jacket, usually in two colors with a bottom pattern of stripes and lice, checkerboard pattern at the bottom of the body and sleeves; eight-petal roses along the shoulders and at the top of the sleeves.
The Fanakofte, which is one of the best-selling Norwegian knitting patterns for skiing and leisure use, is based on a knitted sweater that was part of the traditional everyday dress for men in Fana. The oldest preserved Fanasweater is from the 1880s.
